Cleaning FAQ
How do you make old shoes look new again?
Revive old shoes with a proper deep clean by material: lift ingrained dirt, brighten midsoles where possible, condition leather, re-set suede nap, and treat odour. Scuffs and structural wear can't always be reversed, but most tired pairs look noticeably fresher. Professional cleaning gets the best result on mixed materials.
What actually makes shoes look old
It's rarely one thing. Ingrained dirt on the upper, greyed or yellowed midsoles, flattened suede nap, dried-out leather, and lingering odour all combine to make a pair look tired. Fixing only the upper while ignoring the sole, or vice versa, is why a quick wipe often disappoints.
A proper refresh treats each zone with the right method rather than one all-over scrub.
What you can revive at home vs professionally
At home you can brush, wipe, and condition to improve appearance, especially on leather and canvas. Yellowed foam, deep suede matting, and set-in odour are harder to fix without the right products and time.
Professionally, we deep clean uppers, brighten midsoles as far as the material allows, condition or protect leather and suede, and eliminate odour with UV sanitisation. Optional extras like new laces (£5), re-dye (£10), or sole paint (£10) can push the result further on the right pair.
When it's not worth it
If the sole is worn through, the upper is cracking badly, or the pair is simply at end of life, cleaning can't make them new again. But for favourites, resale pairs, or shoes with plenty of wear left, a £60 Clean 'Em refresh is often excellent value.
