What happens during a professional shoe clean
Every order follows the same documented process, whatever the pair. Your shoes are photographed and inspected on arrival, the materials are identified (leather, suede, nubuck, mesh, knit, canvas, and often several on one shoe), and the included authentication check creates a verified record of the pair's condition and legitimacy before any work begins.
Cleaning is then done by material, not by shoe. Leather is cleaned with pH-appropriate products and conditioned afterwards so it stays supple. Suede and nubuck are worked dry or with tightly controlled moisture using specialist brushes, then sealed with a protector. Fabric, mesh, and knit are cleaned gently to lift ground-in dirt without distorting the weave. Midsoles are degreased and brightened; outsoles are scrubbed and edge-detailed; laces and insoles are handled separately, where the dirt and odour actually live.
Odour is treated at the source with UV sanitisation rather than masked with fragrance. Drying is slow and heat-free, because heat is what cracks leather and breaks down glue lines. A final quality check against the intake photos, and your pair ships back to you with tracked delivery.
Is professional shoe cleaning worth it?
It depends on the pair, and we'd rather be honest about that. For designer shoes, limited-edition trainers, quality leather footwear, and boots you want years more wear from, a £60 deep clean is far cheaper than replacement and protects resale value, because clean, documented, authenticated pairs consistently sell for more. For a worn-out £30 pair, replacement usually makes more sense.
The other half of the answer is damage prevention. The most damaged shoes we receive weren't ruined by wear. They were ruined by machine washing, household chemicals on suede, or radiator drying.
